Card created with the Tropical Leaf bundle, Radiating Stitches Dies, and watercolored card elements with a watercoloring technique. Project made by Melanie Hockin from Mel's Inky Fingers for Friday Focus featuring Stampin' Up! products.

Today I am sharing this really fun card made with the Tropical Leaf Bundle and watercolored leaves.

This bundle is part of an online-only product release called Online Exclusives. The release is full of little gems, that you won’t see unless you head over to my on-line store to peek at them! This project also features the amazing Radiating Stitches Dies from this release. I have been using them on so many projects, and love the added detail.

The key element on this project is the cool leaves. These were made by creating a sheet of watercolored Shimmery White cardstock, and using it to punch elements for my project.

A Granny Apple Green die cut layer made a great backdrop for the leaves. Granny Apple Green was one of 3 green inks used on this project. The stitched detail along the edge works great here. The card is relatively simple, but these small details all come together nicely.

Watercolored Leaves

Creating watercolored elements is pretty simple. I wanted green elements, so I selected Parakeet Party, Granny Apple Green, and Garden Green for my background. First, I wet a piece of Shimmery White cardstock with my Water Painter. After it dried, I used the Tropical Leaf Punch to punch out leaves. I then stamped details on the leaves with Garden Green ink before adding them to my project. These watercolored sheets can be saved, and pulled out as needed to punch or die cut elements.

To create this project:

  • 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ Thick Basic White card base, score at 4 1/4″
  • 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Granny Apple Green to die cut with Radiating Stitches Dies
  • Basic White banner for sentiment
  • 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ Shimmery White cardstock watercolored as desired

Fold card base and burnish well. Stamp XOXO image randomly on die cut layer with Granny Apple Green ink, then add the stem image in Garden Green ink before adhering to card base. Punch 3 leaves from watercolored sheet. Stamp leaf detail in Garden Green ink. Curl leaves with Bone Folder, then adhere to card front. Die cut a Basic White Banner using the Stylish Shapes dies. Stamp sentiment in Garden Green ink, then adhere to card front with dimensionals. Splatter card front with Wink of Stella, then add silver Festive Pearls as desired. Add a green bow.
