Card made with the Decorative Borders stamp set, Something Fancy stamp set, Gold Trim, pastel sequins, watercoloring, and gold heat embossing for the Color Fusers March 2023 color challenge. Card designed and created by Melanie Hockin of Mel's Inky Fingers.

Welcome to another Color Fusers Blog Hop where I am using the Decorative Borders stamp set to show you how to create a beautiful watercolored image with heat embossing.

This months color challenge features a soft color palette. I thought it went especially great with vanilla and gold, so I used this as my base.

I have been on a heat embossing kick lately, and thought I would share how easy it is to create gorgeous watercolored images with heat embossing. The embossed areas are slightly raised, keeping the water from bleeding outside the lines. As it dries, it also gives a beautiful color gradient, making it look amazing!

For this technique, simply heat emboss like usual, then use a Water Painter to pick up ink from the lid of your ink pad. Carefully fill in the image, and allow to dry. As it dries, you will notice the lovely color variation! It is really just that simple.

Decorative Borders

For today’s project, I used two different stamp sets. The main set is called Decorative Borders. It is not an eye-catcher as you pass through the catalog. But if you have a January – April 2023 Mini Catalog, be sure to turn to page 47 and take a closer look. It is beautiful! The other set is Something Fancy, and is a great sentiment-only set.

And how about this gorgeous gold trim? It is a brand new product available online only! Stampin’ Up! has started a new line of products called Online Exclusives. These products will release quarterly, and be available in my online store. Some of them are limited edition, and will sell out fast (one item just sold out in 2 days!). So check them out and don’t wait to grab those items you love!

To create this project:

  • 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ Thick Very Vanilla card base, scored at 4 1/4″
  • 3 3/4″ x 5″ Very Vanilla front layer, distressed the edges with paper snips or your fingernail
  • scrap of Very Vanilla for sentiment

Stamp image on front layer in Versarmark ink. For this project, I stamped the same image twice, mirroring each other. Heat emboss with gold embossing powder. Color the images using a Water Painter. Adhere to card front with dimensionals. Stamp sentiment of choice and heat emboss with gold embossing powder. Adhere to card front with dimensionals. Add a ribbon bow, and embellish with sequins as desired. Stamp sentiment of choice inside card and heat emboss with gold embossing powder.
