Hello again! Today I am sharing watercoloring with Sweet Candy Canes from the Sweetest Christmas collection. It’s day 4 of 12 Days of Christmas, and Brenda and I are sharing tons of ideas. I hope you are enjoying them! Today’s card was inspired by Shannon West. Shannon works at the Stampin’ Up! home office, and does gorgeous watercoloring.

I love the look of watercoloring, but sometimes it can be intimidating. But, today’s background is super easy, and a great one to try if you have never watercolored before!

How to make Watercolored Candy Canes

The essential tool for this project is our Water Painters. They come in a pack with 3 different size brushes, and the wide one is my favorite! You can add water in the barrel. For ink, I like to squeeze my ink pads to put ink on the lid, and pull it with the Water Painter. Then simply make sweeping lines on your cardstock. I like using Shimmery White Cardstock for watercoloring. It tolerates the water much better then plain Basic White cardstock.

While I was at it, I watercolored some White Glimmer Paper from the Red & White Glimmer Paper pack. I let it dry good, then die cut it using the Candy Cane Dies. I also die cut holly leaves from green watercolored Shimmery White Cardstock, and other foliage from Pool Party cardstock using the Christmas Banners Dies.
